Noise Exemption Permit

How to apply for a noise exemption permit for your event or construction project.

Exemptions to the by-law may be permitted through the noise exemption application process. A noise exemption application may be considered to allow noise beyond permitted hours for construction, community or life events.

Complete a noise exemption application.

The application process requires that the applicant send a notification to all residents within 120 metres of the location of the event/project. Applicants for a noise exemption permit must consult with Municipal Enforcement Services (MES) staff prior to sending out this notification.  

Completed applications must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the event or construction project. If information and documents submitted are insufficient and require additional information, it may impact our ability to process the application in a timely manner.

Apply for a noise exemption permit

You will be required to submit the following documents with your noise exemption application:

  • A detailed map or drawing of the location of the event/project. You must include the direction and location where the sound amplifying devices are used. Include any surrounding street names.
  • A copy of the Notice of Application for a Noise Exemption (pdf) that you propose to circulate to residents within 120 metres of the location of the event/project. The draft must be reviewed by the town's MES staff prior to circulation.
  • A copy of the mailing list indicating where the “Notice of Application for a  Noise Exemption” is to be delivered. A notification mapping tool is available to assist with identifying the addresses.

Rates and fees

Refer to the Municipal Enforcement Services By-law Rates and Fees on the Rates and Fees page for the current noise exemption permit fee. 

The application fee is non-refundable and not transferable.

Submission standards

Help us process your application faster by submitting your documents in the following format:

  • Save files in a PDF format.
  • Organize documents as separate files. Document types can contain multiple pages, such as drawings or floor plans.
  • Name your files appropriately, i.e. detailed drawing of event. This saves significant time in processing your application.
  • All files should be easy to read, i.e. scanned documents.
  • Ensure all required documentation is added to your application submission or your application will be delayed.

Resubmissions

In the event you are requested to resubmit materials, please only submit those requested. 

Do not resubmit the entire application package unless requested to do so

After your submission

Your complete application will be reviewed to ensure all required information has been provided. 

Should your application be incomplete, you will be notified via email. Your application will not proceed until all required documentation and payment is received. 

Municipal Enforcement Services staff will contact you to review your application and advise if and when you can circulate your Notice of Application for a Noise Exemption Permit to residents within 120 metres of the location of the event/project. 

Residents will have two weeks to submit comments or concerns to the town regarding the event/project. 

If your permit application is approved, you will be notified via email with instructions on how to download the permit.
