About the program
Our Memorial Bench Sponsorship Program gives you an opportunity to sponsor an existing bench in memory of a loved one, as a dedication to a friend or family member or to commemorate a special event. Sponsoring a bench is an impactful tribute and benefits the community by enhancing our community environment.
The commemorative plaque, eight inches by three inches in size, is carefully flush mounted in the backrest of the bench. Placement of memorial wreaths, flowers, or other items on or around the bench is not permitted.
The Sponsorship covers a five-year period with the option to renew on the anniversary. Once the plaque is installed the bench will continue to be maintained by town staff similar to other town benches.
How to order
Select your preferred location, take a photograph of the bench, and complete the Memorial Bench Sponsorship Program Application form.
Only existing wooden benches are available for adoption and not all park or cemetery locations are available for placement.
Submit your application along with the photograph:
- By email: centralops@oakville.ca
- By mail: Memorial Tree Sponsorship Program, 1225 Trafalgar Road, Oakville, ON, L6H 0H3
If submitting your application by mail, you may consider mailing your deposit cheque with your application if that is your preferred method of payment to avoid mailing a deposit cheque at a later date.
Cost
Five-year bench sponsorship fee: $2,010 plus tax
The sponsorship fee covers the refurbishment and maintenance of the memorial bench for the first five years, plus a personalized cast bronze plaque.
A non-refundable deposit of $395.50 is required. After the plaque is installed, the town will provide an invoice for the remaining balance.
Sponsorship renewal (every five years): $825 plus tax (fee subject to change)
The sponsorship renewal fee is charged every five years to cover the cost of regular bench care and maintenance.
If you do not wish to renew your bench contract after five years, or we are unable to contact you, the plaque will be removed, and the bench will become available for adoption.
It is your responsibility to ensure town staff has your most current contact information.
Payment can be made by cheque, e-transfer or credit card.
