Parking Concerns

Find out how to report and avoid common parking violations.

Common parking issues

On-street parking

Oakville does not allow permanent on-street parking.

Visit the On-street Parking page to learn more.

Parking in school areas

Dropping off and picking students up in school areas causes traffic congestion. Illegally stopped or parked cars make it hard for other drivers to see pedestrians, particularly children, crossing the street. As a result, streets around our schools have “No Stopping” and “No Parking” signs installed.

Learn the difference between No Stopping and No Parking and help keep our school areas safe for children.

No stopping

  • No stopping, even momentarily and even if you are staying in the vehicle.
  • No stopping to wait.
  • No stopping for loading/unloading items from your vehicle.
  • Penalty amount for each violation for No Stopping: $65.

No parking

  • No Parking means you may stop momentarily to drop off passengers. You may not sit in your vehicle indefinitely and you must not leave your vehicle unattended.
  • No stopping to wait.
  • Stopping is allowed for a moment to:
    • pick up or drop off passengers.
    • to quickly load or unload items from your vehicle.
  • Penalty amount for each violation for No Parking: $50

Fire routes

A fire access route allows fire trucks to quickly access a building in the case of an emergency.

Learn what is not allowed in a fire route and help keep our buildings accessible during emergencies.

  • No parking.
  • No stopping to wait.
  • Stopping is allowed for a moment to:
    • pick up or drop off passengers.
    • to quickly load or unload items from your vehicle.
  • Penalty amount for each violation for parking in a Fire Route: $125

Visit the Parking Tickets page if you have been issued a ticket.

Parking at town parks or facilities

Be considerate of residents and other patrons. When parking in a park or facility lot, please position your vehicle in a designated space.

Do not park:

  • On the grass.
  • On a path.
  • At the end of an aisle.
  • In a driving lane.
  • In a fire route.
  • In an accessible parking space without a valid permit on display.

If you park outside of a designated space, you may receive a parking violation. Fines range from $30 to $400.

There is no overnight parking at parks or recreation facilities.

Contractor vehicles

Contractor Vehicle Parking (CVP) permits allow a contractor's passenger vehicles to park on-street during construction projects. These permits cannot be used for commercial vehicles or a disposal bin.

Visit the Parking Permits page for more information.

Request parking regulation changes

To request that restricted parking be implemented on your street you will be required to submit an informal petition to the town.

Parking Petition Form

The petition is a pre-screening process before a technical analysis of the request is undertaken. Submit your completed petition form to service@oakville.ca.
