St. Jude's Cemetery and Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery Culvert Replacements

Design is nearing completion to replace the approximately 135-metre-long CSP culvert with a new, larger concrete box culvert, which will convey stormwater through the cemetery.

The proposed design includes:

• Replacing the existing CSP culvert with a new 135-metre-long, 4.3-metre-wide, and 1.8-metre-high precast concrete box culvert
• Adding weirs at both ends of the new culvert to store stormwater and reduce downstream flows.  
• Reconstructing the channel upstream and downstream of the new culvert. 
• Reconstructing and repaving the driveway

Expected project timeline

• Detailed design completion – Spring 2025
• Tender works – Spring 2025
• Construction begins – Summer 2025 (subject to weather)

Design is currently underway to replace an existing driveway culvert that recently washed out during heavy rainfall in the summer of 2024. The culvert is located on a branch of Sixteen-Mile Creek.      

The anticipated design will include:

• Replacing the existing CSP culvert with a new concrete box culvert
• Reconstructing the channel using natural design elements
• Rehabilitating the existing stormwater outlet
• Reconstructing and repaving the driveway
• Removing and replanting trees to accommodate the works

Expected project timeline

• Detailed design completion – Summer 2025
• Tender works – Summer 2025
• Construction begins – Fall 2025 (subject to weather)
