Culvert Rehabilitation Near 1296 Lakeshore Road West

Following an engineering assessment, the town is proceeding with the preferred solution to rehabilitate the culvert at 1296 Lakeshore Road West.

The Town of Oakville has initiated a detailed design for the rehabilitation of a concrete box culvert near 1296 Lakeshore Road West.

The proposed rehabilitation work may include, but is not limited to:

  • Crack injection to soffit and culvert walls;
  • Reconstruct the culvert wall and soffit to fill in the gap between original;
  • Regrade and direct drainage to the east extension of the culvert;
  • Install new pipes collecting surface drainage and connect into culvert walls; and,
  • Remove and reconstruct the headwall at east extension.

Project status: Detailed design phase

The detailed design will consider the impacts on engineering and public safety and the natural environment.

Timelines

  • Summer 2025: Construction is scheduled to begin
  • January 2025: Detailed design phase begins
  • June 2024: An engineering assessment conducted on the culvert, determined that the preferred solution is to rehabilitate the culvert.
  • March 2023: The Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process (Class EA) was amended, stating that renewal projects such as this, which are limited in scale and involve the rehabilitation of existing infrastructure, are considered “exempt” and have minimal adverse effects on the environment in accordance with the Environmental Assessment Act.

Public engagement opportunities

A key component of the study is consultation with interested stakeholders, and input during the design process is encouraged.
