The Active Transportation Master Plan (ATMP) recommends a network of facilities, made up of on-road and off-road paths. These paths should be designed to respond to the needs of active transportation users, ranging in age and skill level.
Town Council approved the 2017 ATMP update at the July 10, 2017, Planning and Development Council meeting.
ATMP update
In 2017, the town updated the existing ATMP to assess current conditions and create an improved plan. The updated plan includes the expansion of Oakville's active transportation network and promotion cycling and walking.
Updates to the ATMP were developed following extensive public and stakeholder consultation and cover a number of areas including:
- Safety
- Environmental benefits
- Outreach
- Education
- Infrastructure
- Design standards
The ATMP was first introduced in 2009 and updated in 2017. Since 2009, a total of 200 kilometres of bike lanes, pathways and signed bike routes have been implemented as well as 200 bike racks across the town.
