Policy statement

The Town of Oakville supports filming projects within the town, and issues a permit for approved projects.

Purpose

The Corporation of the Town of Oakville (town) recognizes that the film industry can provide both direct and indirect economic benefit to the community.

Scope

This policy applies to all commercial filming and photography on municipal property excluding current affairs and newscast.

Projects that seemingly condone the breaking of municipal by-laws, provincial or federal laws shall not be approved under this policy. The town reserves the right to refuse issuance of a permit for projects on the basis of, but not limited to, filming content, public safety and the availability of the proposed location, in conjunction with other approved town activities or events.

Procedures, guidelines and conditions specific to individual locations will be developed by applicable departments, to ensure implementation of the Filming Policy objectives.

Definitions

Commercial filming: is defined as the use of film, digital, or other moving image or audio recording equipment on town lands for a market audience with the intent of generating income. Commercial filming includes the advertisement of a product or service, and the use of actors, models, sets, or props, but does not include activities associated with broadcasts for news programs and filming activities by persons hired by the town for specific town business.
