Notice of project commencement: Rehabilitation of culvert near 1296 Lakeshore Road West

The Town of Oakville has initiated a detailed design for the rehabilitation of a concrete box culvert near 1296 Lakeshore Road West in Oakville, Ontario.

An engineering assessment was previously conducted on the culvert in June 2024, which determined that the preferred solution is to rehabilitate the culvert. The detailed design will consider the impacts on engineering and public safety, the natural environment, the social environment, and the economic factors. The proposed rehabilitation work may include, but is not limited to:

• Patch and repair to soffit and culvert walls;
• Crack injection to soffit and culvert walls;
• Reconstruct the culvert wall and soffit to fill in the gap between original;
• Regrade and direct drainage to the east extension of the culvert;
• Install new pipes collecting surface drainage and connect into culvert walls; and,
• Remove and reconstruct the headwall at east extension.

In March 2023, the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process (Class EA) was amended, stating that renewal projects such as this, which are limited in scale and involve the rehabilitation of existing infrastructure, are considered “exempt” and have minimal adverse effects on the environment in accordance with the Environmental Assessment Act.

A key component of the study is consultation with interested stakeholders, and input during the design process is encouraged. The project is currently in the detailed design phase and is scheduled to commence construction in summer 2025.

Information collected for this study will be used in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Except for personal information, including your name, address, and property location, all comments received throughout the study will become part of the public record and will be included in project documentation.
