As February is Winter Commute Month, the Town of Oakville is encouraging residents to try walking, taking transit, carpooling, or cycling to work, school or other destinations.
Winter Commute is a part of the Smart Commute program, an initiative that aims to encourage commuters to get to their destination other than alone in their cars. Make a difference this February:
1. Opt for a smarter commute
Try to change your commute to make it more environment friendly. Each trip - whether by bike, carpool, public transit, or on foot - can reduce emissions and help ease traffic congestion. With 22 public transit routes, school special routes, ride-on-demand, care-A-van door-to-door specialized transit service, and a wide network of recreational trails and bike lanes, Oakville offers many options for sustainable trips. More details are available on the Trails and Cycleways map, Recreational Trails map and Oakville Transit’s Schedules and Maps page.
2. Log your trips for a chance to win a gift card
Whether you are commuting for work or grocery shopping, attending an event or taking kids to their recreational program, every trip matters. Use the Smart Commute website or the app to log your trips and track your carbon reduction, helping make a real change. As you log your trips, you will be entered into a draw for a chance to win one of nine $50 gift cards.
3. Join webinars and in-person events
Hear from the experts and learn more about why Smart Commute matters. Register for webinars or attend the in-person event. More details about the webinars and registration links are available on the Smart Commute website.
