Plan for 2025-2029 sets out direction to support growth and enhance transit service to meet the needs of the community
At the October 21 Council meeting, Town Council approved Oakville Transit’s 2025-2029 Business Plan, setting a roadmap to guide transit service planning and operations over the next five years, supporting Council’s vision for a vibrant and livable community for all.
Given continued growth across Oakville, the plan aims to enhance the local transit system and improve connectivity and routes to provide accessible, reliable and efficient transit service.
The primary objectives of the Oakville Transit Five-Year Business Plan are to:
- Align with Council’s Strategic Plan and priorities.
- Align with other key provincial, regional and local planning initiatives and strategic plans, including the town’s Transportation Master Plan update currently underway.
- Further develop the Family of Services transit network – transit’s model to provide a mix of services including conventional fixed routes, school specials, specialized transit (care-A-van) and Ride On-Demand services.
- Continue adapting to post-pandemic ridership growth.
- Guide the implementation of Oakville Transit’s strategies, policies and guidelines.
- Accommodate future growth within the community.
- Address the ever-changing needs of the community and to encourage more transit use.
To meet the above objectives, recommendations for areas of focus from 2025 to 2029 include:
- New and updated service guidelines
- Proposed future network of transit services
- Service frequency changes
- Fare and non-fare strategies
- Programming and staffing recommendations
While endorsed by Council, initiatives recommended in the plan will be further refined through implementation over the next five years, as part of the Oakville Transit’s annual service plan process and subject to budget approval.
