Share input on ways to improve traffic and travel in Oakville on June 18

Monday, May 27, 2024

Work on the Town of Oakville’s Transportation Master Plan (TMP) continues to help shape the future of transportation and travel in Oakville as the town continues to grow and expand. As part of this work, the town is inviting residents to get involved and provide their input at this key stage of the study process.

The town’s network of roads, bike lanes, trails, sidewalks and transit all help people commute to and from school or work, run errands, take part in activities at local parks, community centres and libraries, travel to neighbouring cities and more. Residents are invited to the TMP Public Information Centre on June 18 to learn about potential future network improvements the town can implement to best meet the needs of the community to foster Oakville’s livability and vibrancy.

The town encourages all community members to attend and share valuable feedback on alternative solutions to ease traffic congestion in Oakville and create more opportunities for sustainable modes of transportation for everyone.

Background

  • The Transportation Master Plan will establish a comprehensive multi-modal plan with policies, programs and infrastructure improvements to enhance mobility for all road users, including a focus on more sustainable modes of travel such as walking, cycling and transit, to accommodate growth to 2051.
  • This town-wide transportation plan in being developed in two phases of work – development of the Urban Mobility and Transportation Strategy (UMTS) and update to town’s Transportation Master Plan (TMP)
  • The first phase, the development of the UMTS, is now complete, and the update of the TMP continues, with the first PIC held for the study in December 2023.  This initial engagement opportunity presented the TMP study process, key objectives, and opportunities and challenges for Oakville’s transportation network. The public was able provide input for the project team to better understand their transportation needs and concerns.
  • Work on the second phase, to support the TMP update, will continue throughout the year, with the project anticipated to be completed by late 2024.
