2024 local ceremony details
Every year on November 11, Oakville residents, along with all Canadians, pause in a silent moment of remembrance for the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace. Through their sacrifices, they have ensured our continued ability to live in peace and freedom.
We pay tribute to members of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP who served to defend our values and freedoms in the past and we honour those who continue to serve our country today.
There are a number of ways to participate in the act of remembrance including three local ceremonies in Oakville.
- The Bronte Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will be hosting a walk from its 79 Jones Street location to the Chris Vokes Memorial Park cenotaph, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 10, with a ceremony taking place from 10:50 a.m. to noon.
- A Remembrance Day parade to George's Square will begin at Oakville Trafalgar Community Centre, 325 Reynolds Street, on November 11 at 10:30 a.m. A ceremony at George’s Square will follow.
- A ceremony will take place at Memorial Park at the Trafalgar Memorial on November 11 from 10:50 a.m. to noon.
Additional ceremony information can be found on the Legion's website.
The Oakville Museum will also offer opportunities to reflect and learn in the days leading up to Remembrance Day
- Attend the Curator’s Talk on November 8 at 6 p.m. to hear local historians and guest speakers discuss the contributions and sacrifices made by local members of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Exhibition galleries showing both Pathway to the Stars: A Centennial Celebration of Oakville’s Contributions to the Royal Canadian Aire Force and To the Limit! RCAF Aerobatics in Action will remain open from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in advance of this event.
- Join the museum for family Remembrance Day programming on November 9 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Attend an “Ask the Curator” session to learn about Oakville’s contributions to the Royal Canadian Air Force, attend a book reading with Rob McCoy, author of the Dragonfly Airline series, and design your own aircraft in a hands-on craft activity.
