Drop-in open house at Oakville Yacht Squadron on December 4
Learn more about the proposed plans for the fourth and final phase of the Oakville Harbour West Shore Rehabilitation Project at a drop-in open house hosted by the Town of Oakville. This last phase of redevelopment focuses on improvements to Shipyard Park, the nearby parking facilities, trails, and landscaping, and a new feature on the Underground Railroad and the Town of Oakville’s historical connections. Construction on this phase is expected to start in fall 2025 and continue into 2026.
The open house will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the Oakville Yacht Squadron, 97 Forsythe Street, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Speak with Parks and Open Space staff and consultant MBTW Group, ask questions and share your thoughts.
Space is limited at the event venue. If members of the community cannot attend in person, a copy of the video presentation will be available on the town’s Oakville Harbour West Shore Rehabilitation Project page on December 4, and the public can provide their feedback on the proposed plans by emailing oakvilleharbour-ph4@oakville.ca until December 20.
Community feedback on the proposed plans is appreciated and will be taken into consideration as the project progresses.
Background
- In 2007, the Town of Oakville identified the west shore of Oakville Harbour and the nearby parks as needing updates and improvements. A master plan was developed together with community partners and residents that was approved by Council in 2009. The master plan covered a large portion of the waterfront area and included recommendations for nearby Tannery Park, Shipyard Park, Oyster Bay, Shoreline Promenade, Walker Street Promenade and Waterworks Park.
- Town staff have been working with consultant the MBTW Group on the detailed designs for this phase. The consultant also completed the designs of the previous phases of the project.
- Rehabilitation work began in 2010 and has continued through to 2024. Phase 1 (Oyster Bay) was completed in 2014, Phase 2 (Tannery Hill and Observation Deck) was completed in 2016, Phase 3 (Tannery Park and Waterworks Park Shoreline) was completed in 2019, and Phase 4 (Shipyard Park) is proposed to start in fall 2025.
