Top award presented in memory of program leader Ray McConnell

To celebrate the successful end of the summer camp season, the Town of Oakville proudly recognized the exceptional contributions of the camp team at the annual Oakville Summer Camp Leadership Awards. The event, held at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, showcased the outstanding achievements of this year’s award winners.

With more than 120 guests in attendance, the awards night paid tribute to Ray McConnell, a former summer camp leader with the Town of Oakville from 1979 to 1981. Tragically, McConnell lost his life in a motorcycle accident involving an impaired driver on September 1, 1982. He is fondly remembered for his exceptional leadership and dedication to the town’s summer programs for children.

The Ray McConnell Leadership Award, presented by the McConnell family, is given to the staff member who best exemplifies leadership and makes significant contributions to the Oakville community. Additional awards by camp location include Rookie of the Year, HIGH FIVE Champion, and Extra Mile awards.
