Oakville has been ranked the most livable community in Ontario and among the ‘Top 10’ across Canada

The Globe and Mail’s annual ‘Most Livable Cities’ study looked at 448 cities across the country

The Town of Oakville is leading Ontario municipalities and has been ranked 10th in Canada, in The Globe and Mail’s second annual ‘Most Livable Cities’ study.

The rankings were released on December 12 and looked at 448 Canadian cities. Municipalities were examined in 10 distinct categories, including access to amenities and health care, community vibrancy, demographics, robust economy, education, transportation, safety, climate, and housing affordability. Each community’s strengths were viewed holistically to contribute to its overall livability ranking.

Oakville ranked comparably high among the Canadian and Ontario municipalities studied, particularly in:

  • Access to health care – second in Ontario and Canada;
  • Vibrant community – third in Ontario and 23rd in Canada;
  • Access to education – fourth in Ontario and 16th in Canada;
  • Climate – fifth in Ontario and 85th in Canada;
  • Access to amenities – seventh in Ontario and 28th in Canada; and 
  • Robust economy and transportation – eighth in Ontario and 32nd in Canada.

Oakville also earned high marks in the Top 20 municipalities across Canada for raising kids (19th) and for entrepreneurs (16th). In addition, the study also showed 72 per cent of Oakville residents had a strong sense of belonging to the town and community.
