Help plan for the future of Oakville’s Uptown Core

Thursday, November 21, 2024

The Town of Oakville is reviewing its official plan designations and policies for the Uptown Core Growth Area, including housing, commercial, transit, parks and other amenities. Public engagement kicks off on Saturday, December 7, 2024, in a family-friendly setting to seek input from the community to help shape the future of the area.

Oakville’s Uptown Core is in the southwestern quadrant of the intersection of Dundas Street East and Trafalgar Road, with Glenashton Road to the south, and Sixth Line to the west. This is one of the primary growth areas to accommodate a significant share of the town’s projected population and employment growth.

While much of Uptown Core has been built out, there remain several key opportunities to shape growth and change in the area and guide decisions around land use, the mobility network, the parks and public realm strategy, and other elements of community design.

On Saturday, December 7, 2024, the town is hosting two opportunities to get involved and share information. Pre-registration is not required:

Drop-in Open House

Time: 10 a.m. to noon

Location: Oak Park Neighbourhood Centre, 2200 Sawgrass Drive – parking available on-site

Details: This will be an open house format with staff available to discuss the planned Uptown Core Growth Area Review process and receive comments. All are welcome. A colouring station will be set up for families with kids. There is on-site barrier free parking and access to the meetings room via a ramp at the east side of the building.

Neighbourhood Walk and Talk

Time: 1:15 to 2:30 p.m.

Meeting spot: Uptown Core Terminal green space, northeast corner of Taunton Road and Oak Walk Drive

Details: The walk and talk will be an opportunity for staff to hear from residents about neighbourhood strengths, opportunities and challenges. The walk route will be approximately 2.5 kilometres in length. Route details and materials will be provided at the walk. Attendees are advised to dress according to the weather, wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle. This event will be held rain or shine.

More information about the project is available on the Uptown Core Growth Area Review page. Additional public engagement opportunities will be available throughout 2025 before a final recommendation is brought to Council by the end of 2025.
