Have your say: Oakville’s town-wide Transportation Master Plan and the new draft Midtown OPA

Tuesday, November 12, 2024

Residents are invited to a public meeting and an open house on November 27

The Town of Oakville will be holding a Public Information Centre (PIC) and an open house at Town Hall on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, to discuss two significant projects aimed at enhancing the future of our community.

Midtown Oakville Official Plan and Community Planning Permit System OPA

Open House
South Atrium at Town Hall from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

The town is holding an open house regarding the Midtown Oakville and Community Planning Permit System Official Plan Amendment (OPA). The draft OPA was released in September 2024 for public review and comment. The OPA provides updated policy direction to guide the redevelopment and evolution of Midtown Oakville from an underutilized commercial and employment area to a vibrant, mixed use, transit supportive complete community over the long term. The draft OPA also provides policies to enable the use of a community planning permit system (CPPS) to simplify and improve the processes for regulating land use within an area.

This in-person drop-in event will showcase draft official plan policies and schedules through informative panel boards. Key themes on the panel boards will include:

  • Community Planning Permit System
  • Land use
  • Mobility and infrastructure
  • Housing
  • Sustainability
  • Mix of use
  • Urban design and built form

This is a great opportunity for the public to review information related to the proposed OPA, engage with Town of Oakville staff, and have their questions answered for a better understanding of the new draft OPA.

Feedback is welcome at the meeting or can be submitted through an online questionnaire available during the event, posted on oakville.ca after the event and will remain open until December 11.

Members of the public are welcome to send in comments to townclerk@oakville.ca for council’s consideration and will be able to formally delegate at a statutory public meeting hosted by Planning & Development Council in early 2025. A decision of Council is expected after this public meeting.

Town-wide Transportation Master Plan Public Information Centre

Trafalgar Room at Town Hall from 6 to 8 p.m.
Staff presentation begins at 6:15 p.m.

The second project under discussion is the Transportation Master Plan (TMP) update, which is being developed to improve the overall transportation framework within Oakville. This plan is essential for fostering a more livable Oakville and accommodating growth projected through 2051. This is a hybrid event with in-person attendance, and staff presentation will be live streamed on the town’s YouTube channel. Project details will be displayed on panel boards, and town staff and project consultant team will be available to interact with the public and answer questions

This will be the third PIC, and residents are encouraged to join us to review preferred options based on feedback from two previous PICs. Input collected has been invaluable in shaping proposed solutions that improve travel within neighbourhoods, across town and surrounding areas. The TMP will establish a comprehensive multi-modal plan with policies, programs and infrastructure improvements to enhance mobility for all road users, including a focus on more sustainable modes of travel such as walking, cycling and transit, supporting the town’s vision to be a vibrant and livable community for all.

With the growing population, advancements in technology, and environmental considerations, the updated Transportation Master Plan for Oakville will reflect the current and future needs and aspirations of both residents and visitors.

The fourth and final PIC is planned for the first half of 2025 to present the final plan and implementation.
