Join us at the South Atrium in Town Hall on Sept. 11
The Town of Oakville is inviting the community to an open house to learn more about proposed changes to the town’s noise regulations for outdoor music on restaurant patios. Town staff are considering options to help support the vibrancy of business improvement areas (BIAs), commercial areas, and mixed-use areas while providing a balanced living environment for residents.
The open house will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Oakville Town Hall’s South Atrium, 1225 Trafalgar Road, from 6-7:30 p.m.
Speak with Municipal Enforcement Services (MES) staff, ask questions and share your thoughts.
Staff will consider the community’s feedback that will help inform the staff report to be presented to Council later this fall. Members of the public will have another opportunity to share their thoughts directly with Council. Details on how to delegate to Council are available on the town’s Delegations and Presentations page.

Background
- On May 27, 2024, Town Council was provided with an updated noise by-law (Noise By-law 2024-079) that regulates excessive sound to minimize disturbances in the community. Council approved a direction to have staff consider and bring back options for commercial areas, BIAs, and mixed-used areas regarding time restrictions on allowable noise on restaurant patios.
- The current Noise By-law 2008-098 is more than 15 years old and, as a result, no longer addresses current community expectations, changing noise control guidelines issued by the Province of Ontario, and recent changes to the Municipal Act that have changed the authority for municipalities to control noise.
