Wednesday, November 06, 2024

Oakville Town Council approved a new Parks, Recreation and Library Master Plan, developed to guide the town in making strategic decisions that enhance community wellbeing, improve quality of life, and support a vibrant economy within a sustainable environment. With a remarkable 101 recommendations at its core, the plan outlines innovative strategies for new and enhanced recreation and library facilities, as well as park amenities that will address current and future needs of the community.

The plan was developed following comprehensive public consultation, which included an online community survey, open houses, and virtual workshops with user groups, community organizations, service providers, and service delivery partners. The town gathered input on participation trends, facility utilization, satisfaction levels, current and future facility and programming needs, and partnership opportunities to inform the plan.

This past spring, the draft plan underwent a comprehensive feedback process to ensure the proposed directions were thoroughly tested and refined. Community consultation included an online survey, sessions with stakeholders, a social media campaign, and input from Council and the Oakville Public Library Board.

This new plan will guide the Town of Oakville over the next decade and establish a planning framework through to 2051, aligning with current provincial growth policies. The financial implications of the Parks, Recreation and Library Master Plan recommendations will be reviewed as part of the annual capital budget process.
