Plan incorporates community feedback, builds on accomplishments of previous plans
As part of the Town of Oakville’s ongoing commitment to fostering a vibrant and livable community for all, while meeting and in some areas exceeding the province’s requirements for accessibility standards, the Town of Oakville Multi-Year Accessibility Plan 2024-2029 (MYAP) has been approved by Council.
Presented in a new, accessible web format, the 2024-2029 MYAP is one component of how the town embeds accessibility into all plans, strategies and development standards and supports the town’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility Multi-Year Plan.
Developed with extensive community input, the plan includes trends related to what an accessible Oakville means to the community. It builds on the accomplishments of previous plans, which have helped meet most requirements of the Accessibility of Ontarians with Disabilities Act and commits to areas of focus and actions that will continue to drive the town forward. This includes:
- Additional, enhanced training, particularly for both known and unknown disabilities, to further improve town services and the customer experience.
- Strategies and initiatives to support neurodiverse individuals being explored and integrated into programs, services, communication, and facilities across the town.
- Implementation of the Oakville Universal Design Standards (OUDS) 3.0 (pdf), developed to incorporate an inclusive and accessible lens to all new construction, renovations and upgrades to town facilities.
