National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, September 30, 2023 - Town facilities closures

Monday, September 18, 2023
Oakville, as we know it today, is rich in the history and modern traditions of many First Nations and the Métis. From the lands of the Anishinabe to the Attawandaron, the Haudenosaunee, and the Métis, these lands surrounding the Great Lakes are steeped in Indigenous history. We acknowledge and thank the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation for being stewards of this territory.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a federal statutory holiday. The day coincides with Orange Shirt Day on September 30 and honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. In Oakville, residents are invited to reflect, learn and participate in activities to learn more about Indigenous history and culture. Please visit the Indigenous Culture and Community page.
