2022-2026 Oakville Town Council officially sworn into office at inauguration ceremony

It was a full house for the public reception and Inaugural Council meeting for the 2022-2026 Oakville Town Council last night at Town Hall.

The Mayor and 14 Town and Regional Councillors were officially sworn into office by the Honourable Mr. Justice Clayton C. Conlan, and Vida Rosen, from the Baha’i Community, on behalf of the Interfaith Council of Halton delivered the invocation.

The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of National Defence, and Pam Damoff, MP Oakville North – Burlington, joined in the ceremony and brought greetings on behalf of the Federal Government, and Effie J. Triantafilopoulos, MPP, Oakville North – Burlington, sent greetings on behalf of Premier Doug Ford and the Government of Ontario.

At the meeting, the 2023 Council and Standing Committee schedule of meetings was approved, and Council appointments to the various advisory committees and boards were approved, and is available on oakville.ca.

Mayor Rob Burton delivered his fifth inaugural address that spoke to the community’s many accomplishments over the years, including saving the Ford plant three times, our thriving economic development and we have built more playing fields, recreation centres and arenas.

“Welcome to the new term of council. Together with our engaged community we will create a thriving future for the town we all love. We will use our growth to ensure we thrive and shine. A thriving town is a growing, livable, sustainable, and welcoming town.”

“On behalf of town staff, I welcome the 2022-2026 Term of Council and look forward to working with them collaboratively in serving our community. As Oakville grows, we will continue to build on the many priorities that help move our town forward and provide improved services for our residents.”
