Virtual storytime: Oakville Firefighters narrate ‘No Dragons for Tea’ to help educate children about fire safety April 10-24

The Oakville Fire Department, with support from the Oakville Public Library (OPL), will be holding a virtual storytime in an effort to provide a unique fire safety message for children. Oakville Firefighters will narrate No Dragons for Tea, a quirky story about a dragon’s flame-filled tea party, in English, French, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Farsi and one version using American Sign Language (ASL). The videos will be posted on OPL’s YouTube Channel from April 10 – 24.

Listeners will be entertained by the funny, rhyming verses about a dragon's flame-filled tea party and a reassuring lesson in fire safety, showing that learning about fire safety doesn’t have to be scary.

Oakville Fire hopes that this unique partnership with OPL will inspire families to come together and talk about fire safety. Springtime offers a great opportunity for families to practice their home fire escape plan and ensure they have working smoke alarms in every storey of their home and outside all sleeping areas.

“With families spending more time together during the COVID-19 pandemic, we wanted to provide a fun and helpful resource to get families talking about fire safety,” said Oakville Fire Chief Paul Boissonneault. “Although our in-person public education programs have been temporarily cancelled due to the pandemic, we hope that this virtual storytime will teach children some important lessons in a unique way.”
