Oakville Fire warns about recalled combination smoke and carbon monoxide detector

The Oakville Fire department is advising residents of a recent smoke and carbon monoxide detector recall.

Health Canada recently issued the recall for the Combo Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm for Home, Identification number RA-72337. The detector has no model number, date of manufacturer and no certification marks, such as CSA, cUL or cETL. The recalled product was sold through an independent third party seller on Walmart.ca under the SKU 6HMGL4RAX630. The affected products were sold from July 2019 to October 2019.

The alarm is not certified to Canadian standards and has not been evaluated for safety. The alarm may not operate in the presence of smoke or elevated carbon monoxide levels, posing a fire and carbon monoxide poisoning hazard.

Approximately six units of the affected product were sold in Canada. As of February 6, 2020, the company has received one report of a detector failing to operate in Canada, with no reports of injuries.

Consumers should immediately replace the smoke and carbon monoxide detector with a functioning detector. When purchasing and installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, consumers are advised to look for a recognized certification mark on the product, such as CSA, cUL or cETL.
