Remembrance Day at the Oakville Museum

The Oakville Museum will also offer opportunities to reflect and learn in the days leading up to Remembrance Day.

  • Attend the Curator’s Talk on November 8 at 6 p.m. to hear local historians and guest speakers discuss the contributions and sacrifices made by local members of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Exhibition galleries showing both Pathway to the Stars: A Centennial Celebration of Oakville’s Contributions to the Royal Canadian Aire Force and To the Limit! RCAF Aerobatics in Action will remain open from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in advance of this event.
  • Join the museum for family Remembrance Day programming on November 9 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Attend an “Ask the Curator” session to learn about Oakville’s contributions to the Royal Canadian Air Force, attend a book reading with Rob McCoy, author of the Dragonfly Airline series, and design your own aircraft in a hands-on craft activity.

The Poppy Project

With approval from the Royal Canadian Legion, Sir John Colborne Recreation Centre for Seniors is once again participating in the Poppy Project.

The initiative began in 2023, when dedicated volunteer Margaret Larson started crafting handmade knitted and crocheted poppies to honour those who sacrificed for our country.

In 2024, with help from other Centre members and the community, more than 750 poppies have been created for display both inside and outside the Centre.

Residents are invited to explore this meaningful tribute while it is on display.
