Remembrance Day Ceremonies

Information about services to honour veterans and those serving our country.

Wear a poppy, observe two minutes of silence or attend a ceremony

Residents are encouraged to honour and remember those who have served, and continue to serve, Canada during times of war, conflict and peace on Remembrance Day.

Residents can pay tribute to our veterans and active service members by:

  • Wearing a poppy and making a donation to the Poppy Fund
  • Observing two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. on November 11 wherever they are
  • Expressing gratitude online through social media by using #OakvilleRemembers hashtag
  • Attending an in person ceremony

Local ceremony details

Local ceremony details for 2025 will be posted in November. Ceremony information can also be found on the Legion's website.

The Poppy Project

In 2024, with approval from the Royal Canadian Legion, Sir John Colborne Recreation Centre for Seniors once again participated in the Poppy Project.

The initiative began in 2023, when dedicated volunteer Margaret Larson started crafting handmade knitted and crocheted poppies to honour those who sacrificed for our country.

In 2024, with help from other Centre members and the community, more than 750 poppies were created for display both inside and outside the Centre.
