Bike Month

Bike Month is an opportunity for people to try riding a bike for the first time, learn new skills, or simply have fun and connect with new people.

All month

May 27 to June 2

  • May 27 to 31: Bike to School Week - Encouraging kids to embrace active travel in a safe and fun way! Get your friends together and bike to school during the last week of May. 
  • May 30: A special half-day event for Iroquois Ridge High School students will be offered by Oakville Transit.

June 3 to 9

  • June 6: Cycle to Work Day - Employees encouraged to cycle to work, Town of Oakville staff included! Coffee and pastries to be provided for free at Town Hall to replenish your energy (first-come, first served while supplies last).
  • June 6: River Oaks School Outreach  - In the evening, bike on over to River Oaks Public School for a family friendly tradeshow. 
  • June 9: Oakville Downtown BIA Market / Decorate Your Bike - Head down to the Oakville Downtown BIA Market! Bring your bike and enjoy a community market on George Street. Vendors include produce, handcrafted goods, plants and more. Decorate your bike and bring it to the Town of Oakville stall for a chance to win a prize!

June 10 to 16

  • June 15: Horseman and Bicyclist display - Cycling has long been a popular pastime in Oakville, with the Queen’s Hotel advertising itself as the headquarters for “horsemen and bicyclists” back in 1897. Visit the Oakville: Headquarters for Horsemen and Bicyclists display at the Oakville Museum all month long, to view bicycles from the 1800s and be inspired to jump on your own bike. On June 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. town staff will be onsite to share cycling safety tips and information, giveaways and more.
  • June 15: Bike Repair - Learn how to fix up your bike at the Central Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. A professional technician will be onsite to help get your bike in tip top shape! 

June 17 to 23

  • June 17: Safe Cycling 101 Workshop - This CycleTO webinar will include topic like equipment and bike fitting, safe riding techniques, rules and responsibilities, interactions with others, choosing your route, and more! Hosted by Toronto based CycleTO, this online seminar is a great, exciting way to learn about everything cycling!

June 24 to 30

  • June 26: Safe Cycling 101 Workshop - This CycleTO webinar will include topic like equipment and bike fitting, safe riding techniques, rules and responsibilities, interactions with others, choosing your route, and more! Hosted by Toronto based CycleTO, this online seminar is a great, exciting way to learn about everything cycling!
