The Livable Oakville Official Plan places an increased emphasis on making thoughtful design decisions essential to the development process.
New design concepts are being developed for the growth areas, as well as a review of design directives aligning with the zoning by-law review.
This is all part of the Official Plan implementation. The Urban Design Manual will establish a design-first philosophy where new development is context-sensitive, and strives to achieve the best solution for the community.
The urban design concepts for the growth areas will provide guidance for the longer term build-out and redevelopment of these areas. There are numerous issues being reviewed including the co-ordination among built form, exterior building design, streetscape provisions, establishing a pedestrian environment, the provision of public transit, and land use.
