As part of the Town of Oakville’s ongoing Official Plan Review, the land use designations and policies that apply to Downtown Oakville are being updated.
In December 2017, Council passed By-law 2017-120 to adopt OPA 20 (Downtown Oakville) to the Livable Oakville Plan. OPA 20 was then approved by Halton Region and it came into effect on June 19, 2018.
Under the existing policy framework, new development must recognize and enhance the existing vibrant mix of uses and unique heritage. The Central Business District land use designation, which currently applies to Downtown Oakville, permits a mix of commercial and residential uses (stores, restaurants and offices, alone or in combination with apartments).
Building heights are currently required to be between two and four storeys, with some exceptions.
