Centennial Pool Standing Set

Our decommissioned public pool has become a popular standing set for major film productions.

About the Centennial Pool film set

Location: 120 Navy Street

Since being decommissioned for public use in 2020, Centennial Pool has become a popular standing set for major film productions, providing an ideal location for aquatic scenes as it is only being rented out for film productions since it’s decommissioning.

Production rentals have included the feature film Slumberland and a few upcoming Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HBO Max productions to be released soon.  

The 25 metre, six lane indoor swimming pool was opened in 1967.  

The pool includes:

  • a full wall of removable windows on the main deck of the pool have been installed for easy load in of film equipment 
  • balcony viewing gallery (make two bullet points) 
  • lower level change rooms 
  • pool is empty of water but can be filled and heated if required 
  • standard fill heat times is 1-2 days to fill but it can be done faster if productions use a hydrant 
  • 4 days to heat (so 5-6 days to fill and heat from empty) as such productions can get it down to 2.5 days with hydrant and boiler trucks, can be heated to 70 to 100 degrees f. automatically chemically tested every two hours. 
  • the building is capable of handling heavy production equipment with additional shoring underneath the pool in place 

Additional specifications:

  • pool depth goes from 3 feet 5 inches in shallow end to 12 feet 6 inches in the deep end
  • pool dimensions are 25 metres by 13.5 metres (82 feet by 44 feet)
  • volume is 663,000 litres (175,146 U.S gallons)
  • ceiling has rigging points for lights and can be used to bear weight. 
    • engineered drawings were completed to accompany these points and are available upon request

Architectural drawings are available upon request to the Film Liaison. 

On the building’s south side, a paved driveway from Water Street leads to swing doors and removable windows, offering film crews private, easy access for loading and unloading equipment. 

Parking can be made available along Water Street and there are a number of other basecamp options nearby.
