Expressions of interest will be accepted until Sunday, May 5

The Town of Oakville is inviting professional Canadian artists to submit expressions of interest to create a permanent piece of public art for the interior wall of the new community centre opening in 2025 at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. The artwork will be unveiled at the official grand opening of the centre in June 2025.

Apply today!

Professional Canadian artists 18 years of age and older are encouraged to submit their expression of interest online before 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2024. The selected artist must be able to travel to Oakville for a minimum of three visits to:
  1. Attend a technical consultation meeting;
  2. Manage the installation of the artwork; and
  3. Engage with public dialogue (i.e. artist talk /public unveiling event).

Two-stage competition process

This call out is a two-stage competition process, starting with an expression of interest that will be reviewed based on merit of their past work, professional qualifications, and experience. The shortlisted artists will be paid a $1,500 artist fee to develop a proposal of their artwork concept based on detailed artwork specifications.

The goals of the project include enhancing the visual interest of the Sixteen Mile Community Centre space, and engaging Oakville’s diverse and vibrant community.

The selected artist will have a budget of $90,000 to create a final piece of art that will be unveiled in June 2025.
For more details about the two-stage competition process and the project timeline, visit the Call for Submissions page.
